Instagram is testing Features, a long-form video format with uploads of up to 90 minutes, as it expands a limited trial from Brazil to selected US creators. Adam Mosseri and product chief Tessa Lyons previewed the changes on October 26. The test gives creators another destination for complete interviews, podcasts and other extended programmes.

Alongside Features, Instagram is testing Clips as Reels. Social Media Today reports that up to eight short Reels can link to a longer video. That offers a route from a moment encountered in the feed to the full programme, while keeping both within Instagram.
A clip and its full episode need different framing
A linked Reel has two jobs: work as a short video and make the longer episode worth opening. Simply extracting a few seconds does not ensure either. An editor can select a self-contained exchange, preserve the context needed to understand it and use a clear cover that identifies the full episode.
Horizontal programmes and portrait clips also use different aspect ratios. That makes the crop a separate editorial decision. A two-person interview composed for a wide frame may lose a speaker or visual reference in a tall crop; checking the clip alongside the full scene helps catch that before publication.
Linked clips are distinct from a Series
Instagram is also developing Series, which groups episodic Reels under a topic on a creator's profile. The distinction is the destination: Clips as Reels points toward a longer video, while a Series groups related short episodes. These remain tests and developing features, with no universal access date established in the reporting.
The preparation still starts with the Reels editing workflow. Tools such as reference Reels and reusable style kits help shape a short clip, but do not establish eligibility for the new long-form test. Creators need to confirm that the publishing option exists on their account before planning a release around it.
