PlayCanvas games can now run inside Snapchat as Web Lenses, the engine's team announced on October 23. Developers can package a web game, upload it through My Lenses and submit it for review. Approval makes the game discoverable as a Lens, rather than requiring players to install a separate app.

For creators, the build is only one part of the delivery. Snap's publishing documentation also calls for a square icon and a short portrait preview. Comparing those requirements with the game-upload rules shows why a working game does not, by itself, make a complete submission.
The game package and the promotional assets do different jobs
Under Snap's current beta platform requirements, the compressed game must be no larger than 8 MB. Its index.html file belongs at the root of the zip and has a separate 1 MB ceiling. The game needs relative asset paths so that its files can load from Snapchat's hosting location.
The publishing guide specifies two additional assets: a 512-by-512 PNG icon and a five-second, 720-by-1280 MP4 preview. These are supplied alongside the zip. Treating the 8 MB build limit as the specification for the whole promotional package would mix up separate requirements.
Design the icon for the crop people actually see
Snap places the icon inside a circle in the Snapcode, removing the square's corners. Its guidance favours a centred subject and judging the result at roughly 100 pixels wide. The preview has another task: show the game in motion. Both assets should match the current build, and a changed appearance calls for updated artwork and video.
That small-screen discipline connects with Snapchat creative planning and the audience-facing artwork discussed in our YouTube thumbnail tools report. The delivery specifications differ, but a preview must still represent what opens after the tap.
PlayCanvas' announcement describes portrait games on iOS and Android, with no Lens Studio requirement for this route. A web application still has to fit its host's restrictions. Snap labels the published limits as beta specifications, and every new upload goes through review again.
