Instagram is making paid promotion available from the Live composer. Creators can now boost a broadcast from inside the app, either shortly before going live or by scheduling the promotion ahead of time. The change brings Live closer to the familiar boost flow for posts, Stories and Reels.

How a boosted Live reaches viewers
Instagram says the live video itself becomes the ad creative and may appear in Feed, Stories or Reels while the broadcast is under way. A creator can choose an audience or use the app's suggestion, then set timing for the promotion. Instagram recommends scheduling at least two hours before a planned stream to reduce delivery delays.
The important limit is easy to miss: the boost runs while the creator is live. It is not a permanent ad for a replay, and it does not automatically turn a weak opening into a compelling broadcast. Someone who discovers a stream through an ad still needs to understand what is happening in the first few seconds.
Visual first impressions still count
For video creators, the opening frame is part of the invitation. Clear lighting, a recognizable subject and a concise premise can make a live session easier to enter than a dark or cluttered setup. That is the same basic visual discipline behind a strong video thumbnail, although Instagram says the broadcast itself, rather than a separate thumbnail file, is the ad creative here.
What is new, and what is not
Brands could already build ads around upcoming Live sessions through Meta's ad tools. The new part is convenience: a direct boost option in the Live composer, without a separate campaign setup. Creators who are used to Instagram's short-video workflow may recognize that push toward simpler publishing from the app's recent Reels creation updates.
Anyone planning to pay for reach should test one clear goal first: more live viewers, more questions from the audience or a better turnout for a scheduled event. Instagram's Live boosting help page explains the setup. The boost can bring people to the door; the live video has to give them a reason to stay.
